A surprise appearance? Kate Middleton might be attending the Trooping of Colour after all. After numerous reports of her not attending—including from Buckingham Palace, the Princess of Wales has a big decision coming up for her.
According to The Mirror, Kate Middleton is considering to make an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the Trooping the Colour ceremony if she is feeling well enough. Buckingham Palace reported that the Princess of Wales would not be participating in the dress rehearsal for the Trooping of Colour. Kate will return to public duties given the all-clear by doctors after her cancer treatment. Her role will be filled in by Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE.
The British Army website previously listed that Princess Kate will inspect soldiers during an engagement at the Horse Guards Parade in London on June 8. The website quickly retracted their statement which said, “Trooping the Colour reviewed by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales also includes 250 soldiers from the Foot Guards who will line the processional route along The Mall.” On St. Patrick’s Day in 2023, King Charles named the Princess of Wales as the honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards, who usually inspects the guards on the Trooping Of Colour.
“We wish the Colonel of the Irish Guards the best of best wishes for her recovery,” Lt. Col. James Shaw who is the Brigade Major of the Household Division told GB News. “And again, the Irish Guards are hugely proud to have her as their Colonel and want to put on a really special show this year.”
When she announced her cancer diagnosis with the public on March 22, 2024, the Princess of Wales referenced her commitment to her royal duties, saying, “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.
On May 28, 2024, an insider revealed to Vanity Fair that the Princess’ treatment is going well but there’s still no definite date for her return to public life. “There is no timeline, and there is certainly no hurry. It will be when Catherine feels ready and when she gets the green light from her medical team. But she will 100 percent be coming back to work, of that there is no question,” the source said.
