Hours after the tragedy, Travis Kelce took to X to address the parade shooting in Kansas City, Missouri on February 14, 2023. The parade was in celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs‘ victory against the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl LVIII just days prior. At least one person was killed and 21 others were shot, including children, officials told NBC News.
“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today,” Travis posted on X. “My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.” Later in the night, TMZ reported that the Chiefs tight end took photos with police and law enforcement outside of Granfalloon Restaurant and Bar before heading in to have dinner with his teammates.

People took to Twitter to react to the news of Travis Kelce taking photos with police. “Kelce is a complete narcissist, it all about him, he could care about others, plus he is a bully……” one person posted. Another one posted, “Not a good look IMO for him a few hours after a person was killed and others wounded.”
Other people defended Kelce, as one wrote, “No problem with him supporting first responders who were likely there today. And eating with teammates. Leave them all alone today.”
The Kansas City Chiefs released a statement shortly after the shooting. “We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City,” their statement read.
“Three persons were detained and under investigation for today’s incident,” Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said in a press conference. “Right now we do not have a motive.”
“I’m angry at what happened today,” Graves added. “The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment.”
