Rosemary tea for hair seems to be the internet’s latest DIY hair care obsession. If you’re a beauty-obsessed Tik Tok watcher (no shame!) you’ve likely scrolled past a few viral beauty hacks and treatments on your For You Page. From heatless curls to throwback hairstyles reminiscent of our favourite 90’s It girls, there’s endless inspiration to scroll through to help shake up your hair game.Rosemary tea promotes hair growth, cleanses the hair and scalp, darkens dull strands, and increases shine. One of the easiest ways to capture the benefits of rosemary oil is by using it as a hair rinse. The unexpected hair saviour has seen a 150% growth in Google searches over the last year and racked up millions of views on Tik Tok after Tik Tok user Maria Castaneda (aka mcriaaa) shared how the beauty treatment transformed her hairline. Tons of Tik Tok users jumped on using rosemary tea for hair growth bandwagon after seeing her impressive transformation (us included), and even doctors weighed in on the benefits of using the antioxidant-rich rinse as hair treatment. Another great thing about this DIY hair treatment is that it is affordable and accessible. If you don’t already have rosemary in your spice cabinet, you can pick up fresh or dried rosemary at your local grocery for under $5. If you have a green thumb you can also add rosemary to your herb garden, so you always have some fresh leaves on hand.
Rosemary Oil Hair Benefits
Using rosemary oil for hair has tons of amazing benefits. Adding it to your hair care routine once a week can help to encourage hair growth, manage scalp issues, and improve the overall quality of your hair. Rosemary tea contains ursolic acid which helps to increase circulation to the scalp. If you are struggling with hair loss, this increased blood circulation will stimulate your hair follicles which will lead to increased hair growth. The increased circulation will also help deliver vital nutrients to hair follicles, to help build stronger strands.
Rosemary has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that make it great for cleansing the scalp and treating issues like dandruff, itchiness, and inflammation.
All hair types can benefit from this DIY hair rinse. If your hair is dull or greying, using rosemary tea for hair can also darken and add shine to your strands. Since rosemary tea is packed with antioxidants it targets free radicals which are responsible for hair greying and thinning. Lots of dry shampoo, hairspray, and other styling products in your hair routine that can cause hair buildup, rosemary tea can help revitalize hair and remove buildup to leave you with shiny, soft locks.
Like most treatments, don’t expect to see results overnight, with consistent use you should start to notice subtle changes in your hair in two to three months. If you want to speed up your results, try changing some of your hair habits! Try out a heatless (that means no hot hair tools) hot girl summer to give your hair a break, limit chemical treatments, and get consistent with hair masks. These small changes can make a huge difference in your overall hair health.

The great thing about DIY hair treatments is that you can tailor them to what your hair needs. If you want to target dull or grey hair, add sage to your rinse to help darken your hair. Need to combat oily hair? Add Peppermint or lavender to help balance an oily scalp. If your strands are parched and damaged, add marshmallow root to condition and hydrate thirsty hair. It’s always a good idea to take a break from heat styling, instead add Luxy hair extensions , which are a great way to change up your look without the damage.
After wetting your hair in the shower, apply the rosemary hair rinse on your scalp and hair line, and massage it in. The massage will also help to stimulate the scalp! For the best results leave the rinse on your hair as a leave-in treatment. You can keep reapplying it daily until your next wash for extra hair-boosting benefits. If you plan on rinsing it out, let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes and rinse with cool water. You can also use this rinse to refresh your hair after a sweaty workout or beach day, in lieu of your dry shampoo!
You can store the rinse in your refrigerator for up to five days, after that you’ll want to make a fresh batch to avoid growing bacteria. To extend the life of your hair rinse, you can freeze it into ice cubes and melt them when you’re ready to use them. There you have an easy and effective hair treatment, just in time to get your hair ready in time for your next big outing!
