Prince George is celebrating his 11th birthday with his Royal family and the fun isn’t restricted to the palace. The young prince is having a “private party” with his closest relatives, but this year will be slightly different from years prior.
His mother Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer earlier in the year, but she’s still aiming to be part of her eldest’s celebrations. “Kate is still going to very much carry on like many, many other mothers do, to keep as much of a normal life as possible,” a source told The New York Post. “With royal birthdays, especially with children and especially Catherine’s, they are very private occasions.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales’s social media accounts posted a photo taken by Princess Kate. “Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today!” the post captioned. The Princess of Wales is an “enthusiastic amateur photographer,” when she also took Prince Louis’ 6th birthday in April and Princess Charlotte’s 9th birthday in May.However, a photo earlier this year came under some controversy after an editing incident.
However, there hasn’t been a whole dent in regularly scheduled plans for the future King. “It will be business as usual with potentially a party or other kids coming round,” former royal butler Grant Harrold told the outlet. “There will be something that happens. It won’t be a case of him sitting behind closed doors and not doing anything; there will be some sort of a celebration.”
“Of course it’s going to be very different from last year, but they will go out of their way, I’m sure, to make George’s birthday as normal as possible this year,” he assured. “They wouldn’t want to make George think this year is any different. Yes, it will be different, for obvious reasons, but the parents will want him to have a normal birthday.”
Of course, getting communication from King Charles and Queen Camilla isn’t out of the question either. “I’m sure he will get phone calls from his grandparents and other family members today,” Harrold said, saying that the Waleses are “very serious about their privacy.”
Just a week before his birthday, Prince George accompanied Prince William to Germany where they saw England play Spain in the 2024 UEFA European Championship final. They also attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium with his sister Princess Charlotte.
