Song of the summer? Sad boy summer might be the move for Joe Jonas‘s new song. The song is the first that Joe’s released since he announced his divorce with Sophie Turner.
Joe teased the track on TikTok with the caption “Even baddies get saddies 🥲 #newmusic.” In a sunny video, the second oldest Jonas Brother lip-syncs to his track while riding a bike. “Come on, Joe, you got so much more to be grateful for,” he sings. “Stop being sad because you’re making the room uncomfortable / OK I get it / I know you’re feeling so miserable / Sometimes I wish I had powers to be invisible. Even baddies get saddies and that’s the hardest truth / Called your mommy and daddy, they don’t know what to do.”
Some fans supported Joe on his release. One fan commented, “a baddie being vulnerable, king. 🙂↔️💫” Another commented, “this sounds familiar…it kinda sounds like…SONG OF THE SUMMER!!”
Though Joe didn’t mention who the song might be about, some signs point towards it being about the effects of his divorce. In a joint statement issued to Instagram, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas explained that they were divorcing on September 6, 2023: “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” they said.
On September 21, 2023, Page Six reported that Sophie Turner was suing Joe Jonas. The Game of Thrones actress filed for “the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained,” the documents, which were obtained by Page Six, stated.
Divorce documents obtained by People revealed, “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken,” with sources explaining that the split did not come as a “surprise” to those who were close to the couple. “They were not separated but they’ve been living separate lives for months,” the source said. “As far as custody goes, this literally all just happened, so they’re figuring it out in real-time. They did have a prenup. As a family, they were based in Florida. The kids were with him the last few months, traveling with him with family while he’s been on tour. Sophie’s been working in the UK.”
With headlines running rampant about their divorce, Sophie became candid with how a headline about partying and rumors affected her. “I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” she told Vogue. “It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother—mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’ ”
