They were married for six years and share three children, so Jennifer Garner‘s loyalty amid Ben Affleck‘s rumored divorce from Jennifer Lopez has been revealed. Garner and Affleck were married from June 2005 to October 2018, and share three children—daughter Violet, and sons Fin and Samuel.
According to a source quoted by People, Garner “wants the best for” her ex-husband. “She wants him happy and healthy so he can be the best dad possible,” the insider said, adding that she “likes that [Lopez] lives a healthy lifestyle and supports Ben’s sobriety. Jen wants that for Ben.”

However, Garner and J-Lo have reportedly been supporting each other throughout. In an article published by Daily Mail, a source said J-Lo was confiding in Garner because of their shared experiences with the same man, although circumstances are a little different. “JLo has been confiding in Jen because she knows that she is one of the only people in the world who would understand what she is going through,” the insider said.
“She has been through it with the same man herself and although the circumstances were quite different it is still the same man and they both dealt with some of the same issues. … Jen does not want Ben to pull the plug on this marriage because she really does care about JLo,” the source continued.
“JLo was told several times by Jen how valued she is in all their lives. She is one of the only women who can get through to Ben and keep him from jumping off the deep end with his addiction,” the insider concluded. “The biggest fear right now is that he will start drinking again and part of the reason Jen has been keeping tabs on him is to make sure this doesn’t happen.”
Indeed, in a 2020 interview with the New York Times, Affleck admitted his alcohol abuse was partly responsible for his marriage breakdown with Garner. “I drank relatively normally for a long time. What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart. This was 2015, 2016. My drinking, of course, created more marital problems,” he said.
InTouch Weekly first reported about the alleged breakup. “The writing is on the wall—it’s over. They’re headed for a divorce—and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!” a source told the outlet. “He’s focusing on his work and his kids now. Ben has already moved out and they’ll likely have to sell the dream house they spent two years searching for. They’ll never stop loving each other, but she can’t control him, and he can’t change her. There’s no way it could have lasted.”
