The skin is the body’s largest organ and it plays a crucial role in protecting us from external aggressors. Keeping it healthy is not only vital to our overall wellbeing, but problems with our health can also show up on our skin before anywhere else. Understanding and strengthening skin immunity, or skinmunity, is essential for maintaining healthy and radiant skin.

What Is Skinmunity?
The skin’s immune system is a complex network of cells that protect the body from environmental stressors, infections, and diseases. Our skin barrier serves as the first line of defence against harmful exposure from the external and internal environments and the immune functions of the skin are vital. Boosting skin immunity is vital for maintaining processes such as inflammation, immune response, wound healing, and disease prevention, as well as keeping us looking and feeling our best, at all times of year.

How Do You Boost Your Skin’s Immunity?
Eat Beautiful
Vitamin A plays a significant role in skin immunity and the skin microbiome. Deficiencies in Vitamin A have been linked to impaired immune response and increased susceptibility to skin infections and inflammation. Including foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens in your diet to support skin immunity. Find out about the best skin-friendly foods (and how to cook delicious meals with them) in my book Eat Beautiful.
Use Antioxidants
Regular use of topical antioxidants like vitamin C can also boost skin immunity. These antioxidants can help neutralise free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress making them a great skinmunity booster.
SPF
Wearing a high-level, broad-spectrum SPF every day is crucial for protecting the skin’s immune system. Excess exposure to UV rays can lead to damage and inflammation, impairing the skin’s immune function.
Hydration is Key
A purifying and hydrating skincare routine, along with adequate sleep and hydration, can promote the healthy immune function of your complexion. Using skincare products that support the skin’s natural barrier and hydration is a must. Check out these quick-fix moisture boosters.
