Hailee Steinfeld on Beau Society & Teaming up With Neutrogena

Whether it’s long hair, a bob, or something in between—there’s nothing Hailee Steinfeld can’t pull off. We’ve witnessed her slay in elegant updos and stunning red carpet looks, and she’s constantly setting the bar higher. The triple threat is always at the top of her beauty game. When she’s not filming blockbuster movies, she’s maintaining that gorgeous glow with her skincare routine. And because of her recent partnership with Neutrogena, Hailee has been taking preventative steps to ensure her skin looks youthful for as long as possible. Even though some of us might be convinced we’re too young to worry about aging, Hailee is here to remind us that’s sadly not the case.

The fact of the matter is, you lose up to 1% of your collagen every year in your 20s. “There’s no way,” Hailee said when she first heard this. So even if your skin is looking the best it’s ever looked, there’s no harm in planning ahead. At 27, Hailee has already accomplished so much in her career—and she doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Needless to say, Hailee is hoping to preserve her skin cells for as long as possible, so she added Neutrogena’s new Collagen Bank to her morning and nighttime skincare routine. And with that, all she has left to worry about is her next cryptic Instagram post.

A week ago, Hailee vaguely teased a new project titled “Beau Society” on her Instagram. Naturally, all of her fans were extremely confused. Although Hailee’s stressful Instagram posts might’ve caused her stans to lose extra collagen, she still feels the love. And as someone that’s proudly claimed her Filipino heritage, Hailee has taken note of how her fans in the Philippines constantly show up for her. In an era where it’s easier than ever for fans to communicate with their idols, Hailee was looking for new ways to reach her followers (or family, as she often calls them). Because she’s such a chronically-offline celebrity, Hailee has realized social media isn’t the best place to connect with her followers. So as a solution, she’s dreamed up Beau Society.

You recently teased Beau Society on your Instagram, and it left fans very confused. Is there anything you can share with us about what’s to come?

I will start by saying that people know I tend to throw a cryptic post there. So apologies for the confusion that it has caused. But, Beau society—I’m launching a newsletter, and I’m so excited about it. This has been a personal passion project of mine for years, and I’m so excited that it’s finally out in the world. I created it because I wanted a way to communicate and connect with people who have been following me since the very beginning, sort of away from social media.

As a Filipino, I’ve always admired how you proudly represent us. With Carlos Yulo winning a gold medal for the Philippines and so many rising Filipino stars, are there any recent moments that have made you especially proud to be Filipino?

First of all, how amazing was Carlos Yulo. That was so exciting to watch. I saw a gif of somebody screaming and it was like, ‘Everyone in the Philippines.’ I was like ‘everyone here too, because that’s me.’ He’s so young too, and it’s so inspiring to watch. What an exciting moment for the Philippines. So, with the cryptic teasing of Beau Society, it’s been the first time in several months that I’ve been active on social media, and working to connect with my people again—my followers, my family, really. That’s how I always refer to them—and I love nothing more than when I see my fans from the Philippines, they come in so hot, and they’re so vocal, and they’re so supportive. And that’s one thing I love. That’s just in our blood as Filipinos, there’s love and support that’s unwavering. And I’m so grateful they’re part of my community.

Since you chopped off your hair, are you officially declaring it a bob summer? Do you like your short hair better than your long hair?

Oh, I love it all the same. I love my long hair, but this needed to happen. I got to a point where I was like, ‘I need the change.’ And for the longest time with my hair—I had bangs at one point, which, you know, started out great and then didn’t end up so good. And I started to play around with coloring my hair a little, which was fun, but also a very slippery slope, as many know. But for a long time, I was like, ‘What can I do to my hair that, will give me a sense of change and freshness that isn’t chopping it off, that isn’t cutting bangs, and that isn’t coloring it,’ and that left me with pretty much no options. So you know what? I had gotten to a point where I was like, ‘It’s time. Let’s do it.’ And I love it so, so much.

Once it starts to grow out, are you planning to go back to the long hair, or will you keep the bob?

Well if I’m being honest, I got a cut again last week. The awkward stage is very, very real. I was joking with my girlfriends—that will be the reason I will have short hair forever. Once it kind of grazes the shoulder, it’s not good for me. So we’ll see what ends up happening. But I’m really enjoying the short hair for now.

What beauty trends have you been into recently?

This is something I’ve always loved to do—I take an eyeliner, or they have little pens for them now, and go over my beauty marks after I’ve done any sort of coverage. I also love the faux freckle trend, even though I haven’t done it personally. I think it’s so cute.

What beauty products have you been obsessed with lately? Is there anything you’re dying to recommend to our readers?

Well, Neutrogena Collagen Bank, of course. For so many reasons, this product has truly taken over my skincare routine. It’s a staple for me, and I love that I have a version of it for my morning skincare routine, which is the Neutrogena Collagen Moisturizer with SPF, and then at night the Neutrogena Collagen Bank Moisturizer. It’s really so amazing, and I cannot wait for people to try it.

Since you started working with Neutrogena, have you become more aware of pre-aging?

I feel like I’ve definitely become more aware since working with Neutrogena, just learning alone that you lose 1% of your skin’s collagen every year, starting in your 20s, when I read that, I was like, ‘There’s no way.’ So wild and so crazy. But thank god that I’m learning this now, and thank god I get to help spread the word for those entering their 20s. It’s a real thing. And I think there’s something really exciting and really great and really important about educating yourself on pre-aging, just so that you’re aware. There’s so many things that you should be doing, that your future self will thank you for.

Everyone on TikTok is obsessed with trying to reverse the signs of aging. What do you think these new products mean for young women your age, or anyone who’s interested in slowing the aging process?

I think what I love so much about this product, is that it’ll prevent you from getting to that point of having to figure out how to anti-age. You’re taking these preventative steps so that you don’t get there, you don’t get to that point of, ‘Oh, no. What do I do now? I had this window of time where I could have used my Neutrogena collagen bank.’ So I think this product is going to really hit home for a lot of people, and a lot of those people on TikTok who are watching those videos and trying to find new ways to pre-age.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
