As you know Garnier Skinactive Erase It All Makeup Cleansing Balm with Hyaluronic Acid is one of two new cleansing balm formulas the brand released. I decided to purchase and review the Hyaluronic Acid formula even though I’m pretty stocked up on cleansing balms at the moment. Unfortunately, I’ve reached a stage in my skincare life when the release of a new cleansing balm doesn’t really excite me anymore. Farmacy Honey Vanilla Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm recently dropped, and I’d typically be pretty hyped to indulge in a new Farmacy Cleansing Balm, but I really don’t need it, plus the entire limited-edition thing! Part of it stems from the fact that I already have a few cleansing balms in my current rotation. It seems silly to purchase another formula without first using those up.
Of course, I did indulge in Garnier Erase It All Makeup Cleansing Balm with Hyaluronic Acid, and a lot of that was because I needed to review it for the blog, not because I wanted it. But it surprised me…! And I’ll happily repurchase it.
Garnier Erase It All Makeup Cleansing Balm with Hyaluronic Acid is 4.2 oz in size and will set you back $14.99 on amazon.com. I think once it reaches retailers like Walmart and Target, the price might be slightly lower (maybe around $12.99), or you might see it a bit higher at retailers like Ulta (maybe around $16). In comparison to other drugstore brand cleansing balms, this may appear expensive, but it is bigger in size. But also, popular picks like E.L.F. Holy Hydration! Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm is more expensive and smaller. E.L.F.’s formula is 3.5 oz for $19, making the Garnier one a better and more affordable option.
Moving on from price…
I do not believe in cleansers that combine skincare and cleansing into one formula. Putting stuff like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, etc…into my skincare seems pointless when washing these actives off. Garnier Erase It All Makeup Cleansing Balms do combine skincare and cleansing into things. This formula contains absolutely no fragrance. You know when you buy a product that promises to be fragrance-free but still smells like something…? Sometimes, it can be cardboard or a weird, soapy scent! This does not smell at all! I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with that. As promised, it does contain Hyaluronic Acid, but it’s the third to last ingredient, which makes me question if it’s doing much for my skin, but I WILL SAY my skin felt pleasantly bouncy after cleansing with this stuff. The main base is shea butter, along with jojoba seed oil. It does contain some dyes though, like BLUE 1 LAKE and YELLOW 5 LAKE. These aren’t unsafe dyes, but seeing them in a cleansing balm might seem odd.
As with all cleansing balms this is a solid balm with a sorbet-like texture. I’d liken the consistency to the soft texture of Banila Co’s Cleansing Balm. You apply it on your dry face, massage it on, and add water to emulsify it. It melts down quickly with water and has an almost oily consistency as it breaks down. It removed my makeup and sunscreen very quickly without making my eyes cloudy, nor did it sting. It washes clean away, but here’s the best part…! This made my skin feel so super soft and juicy. It almost felt like I had applied a serum after I patted my skin dry. My skin felt hydrated and almost dewy to the touch! No tightness, no dryness, just smooth and hydrated. I loved that as a dry-skinned girl!
I admit I went into my purchase of Garnier Erase It All Makeup Cleansing Balm with Hyaluronic Acid thinking, “Eh, another cleansing balm!” But after using it, I’m pretty impressed and absolutely will repurchase. My dry skin loves this one.
