Bella Hadid’s Street Style Might Be a Met Gala Easter Egg

Fashion girls, the game is on. Bella Hadid’s street style this morning might be telling us something. This morning, less than a week before the Met Gala, Hadid was seen out in New York City wearing a cream slip-style corset dress with fringe at the bottom hem, appliqués on the bodice, and a sheer moment. A lot going on here, not to mention it’s an archive pull from Dior’s Spring Summer 2004.

It’s not surprising that someone of Hadid’s celebrity status could pull rare archival pieces, but those kinds of things are usually reserved for red carpets. For her to be seen on a casual (“casual”) walk out in the city with a fresh blowout, natural blushy makeup, a diamond in the crook of her decolatage AND an archival Galliano era Dior dress? It’s a curious thing, obviously. I think we can assume that this is all but official confirmation that Bella Hadid will be at the Met next week.

But now I have some questions. Will she be dressed by Dior, whose current creative director is Maria Grazi Chiuri, one of the few women designing fashion at this level? Or John Galliano’s current house, Margiela? If the second, will she be wearing the porcelain makeup look made famous by Dame Pat McGrath? There are so many options, so many ways this could go! The dress code this year is The Garden of Time, celebrating the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” And honey, we are AWAKE.

We do also know that Bella is promoting her new fragrance line Orabella, which becomes available for purchase this week. So I don’t want to totally punk myself out and get carried away. I’m hoping this little dress stunt is indeed a stunt and her solving two problems with one solution.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
