A big update. Queen Camilla just spoke about her husband King Charles and people are turning their heads. At an event, she spoke about the King’s subtle stubbornness at Queen’s Reading Room Festival at Hampton Court Palace in Surrey on June 10, 2024.
Talking to novelist Lee Child, Queen Camilla said that King Charles is “doing fine” and joked that he “won’t slow down and won’t do what he’s told.” Child sardonically responded, “sounds to me like a typical husband.”
A previous report noted that Queen Camilla has been making subtle notes for the monarch to slow down. Daily Mail‘s Ephraim Hardcastle column reported that Camilla makes discreet notes to the King in his briefings such as ‘softly, softly catches the monkey’ and ‘prudens qui patiens’ [the prudent man is patient].
Sources added that the King has a lot of “gratification” at his response to his treatment. However, some are concerned “about his determination to take on so many external engagements.”
One friend of the family’s told The Daily Beast: “Of course he should slow down but, as anyone who knows him will tell you, he is not going to. He spent 70 years as the first in line to the throne, and he is determined to do the job as best he can for whatever time remains to him. It’s a worry for everyone, because he has made no secret of the fact that he still has cancer and is still getting treated for it, but I think he wants to raise awareness of the reality that cancer is something that a lot of people live with and make the best of.
On June 5, 2024, King Charles attended a D-Day event where he delivered a public speech which was his most high-profile appearance since his cancer diagnosis. King Charles returned to his public duties on April 30, 2024. On April 26, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles would make his first public outing after his cancer diagnosis. “His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” read a statement at the time.
